How to Supply Artwork for Printing

Send us your print-ready artwork 

Ordering a printed product from MD Print Shop and already have your own artwork? On the product page, choose Artwork Upload and upload the file you would like us to use.

We prefer PDF files, but we can usually also work from JPEG, PNG, Word and Excel files. We carry out a free file check when we receive your order and send a digital proof for you to check and approve before printing. 

Artwork checklist 

  • File type: PDF is preferred. JPEG, PNG, Word and Excel files may also be suitable. 
  • Resolution: Supply images at a minimum of 300dpi at the final printed size. 
  • Colour: For full-colour printing, save your artwork as CMYK where possible (we print in CMYK and not RGB). We will check the file and confirm the result in your digital proof. 
  • Crop marks: Include crop or cutting marks where they are required for your product. 
  • Fonts: Outline or embed fonts so the text displays correctly. 
  • Size: Supply artwork at the correct finished size and proportions for the product you are ordering. 
  • Black artwork: Use C:0 M:0 Y:0 K:100 for black text and fills. 
  • Bleed: If your design runs to the edge, add 3mm bleed all the way around where required. This is trimmed away during production. 
  • Safe area: Keep important text and details at least 4mm from the edge where appropriate. 
  • Small details: Avoid text below 5pt and lines thinner than 0.5pt, as they may not reproduce clearly. 
  • Copyright: Make sure you have permission to use every image, logo and font supplied with your artwork. 

What happens after you upload? 

  1. We check your file. We review the artwork against the product and contact you if anything needs attention. 
  2. We prepare a digital proof. You receive a proof by email before printing starts. 
  3. You approve the proof. Check the layout, wording and details carefully and let us know if anything needs changing. 
  4. We print your order. Once the proof is approved, your artwork moves into production.
